Android Mobile Engineer
Location: London, Bradford, Chatham or Petersfield
Working Pattern: Our working style is hybrid, but we recognise the importance of collaborative working with our colleagues often 1 to 3 days per week in one of our offices

You and Your Team:
As an Android Mobile Engineer, you will be reporting to the Android Mobile development Senior Manager. You’ll be responsible for the development of all native Android VBG customer-facing mobile applications (including Snoop) as part of a cross-functional delivery team. You will support the definition of application architecture and continually identify ways to optimize application technology estate, in addition to feature and experience development. You will also own and maintain the code base of all Android VBG mobile applications and ensure compliance with overarching technology guidelines and principles as part of the mobile developer community. Keep VBG Digital at the forefront of mobile development theory, driving efficiency, security, and customer satisfaction in every solution.
In your day-to-day role, as a Mobile Engineer you will:
- Developing all of VBG’s native Android customer facing mobile applications
- Influencing UX and product design, by using your deep understanding of best practice to assess feasibility and offer alternatives where there may be a better option
- Participating in a cross-functional delivery team based on Agile development methodology
- Driving a continuous improvement culture based on detail knowledge of mobile application development
- Writing and running unit test scripts
- Appropriate documentation of all delivered features and experiences
- Researching new technologies and techniques, running experiments, technical spikes and proof of concepts to keep Snoop at the forefront of modern application development
- Demo-ing your amazing work to your colleagues
- Inputting into mobile application strategy in-line with wider tech and business strategies
Job requirements
What will make you stand out?
- 3+ years experience of Android development (Kotlin / Compose UI)
- Deep knowledge of OOP and SOLID principles
- Experience working with 3rd party APIs and libraries
- Experience evaluating how different technologies and frameworks can be used in order to deliver the best possible solutions
- Experience with unit testing
- Dislike of hacks, preferring to write clean code over quick fixes
- Habit of documenting your code and knowledge
- Strong emphasis on usability best practices and structured code
The interview process:
- Up to 30minute telephone call with a member of the Talent Acquisition team
- Up to 60 mins with the hiring team – Technical interview
- Take home test exercise
- Final interview with the team up to 30 mins – Competency based
